Crab

Dungeness Crab:

Who doesn't love a little cracked crab? I sought out the finest from three sources and made a great discovery... crab is crab... and Safeway's comes from the same ocean as Cook's or Bianchini's, but for a whole lot less money. Who'd a guessed?

Admittedly I'd been overpaying for crab for years. I stretched my comfort zone and went to Safeway and spoke to the fish counter. "Fresh" crab was set to be delivered on Monday morning, so I grabbed one and asked for them to crack it. It was fantastic, as crab should be. To be fair to Cook's above, crab can be different from one to another, so I probably got a bad selection.

At the end of the day, each store has something they do better than the others. Grab your Louie and Cocktail sauce while you're at Cook's (might as well grab some cooked shrimp too... they're the best). Bianchini's has a great overall shopping experience and is by far my favorite grocery store. But the pure price for product winner goes to Safeway, but pick it up when it's fresh!
